Job Description:
The Clinical Research Nurse provides professional nursing care and patient monitoring for clinical trials within the Clinical and Translational Science Units (CTSU). The CTSU provides the opportunity for you to be an active participant in growing the research endeavors of the medical center and affiliate regional institutions. CTSU has multiple locations throughout the Kansas City metro, including Fairway, Rainbow and Swope areas. This position provides excellent patient care to research participants of all ages by adhering to institutional policies and procedures as well as strict research Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. The Clinical Research Nurse is required to make decisive decisions with rapid response to urgent situations. Must multi-task while conducting daily activities such as physical exams, placing IV's, administering investigational drug, performing clinical and research related procedures such as IV Glucose Tolerance Tests (IVGTT's), ECG's, Vital Signs, specimen collection and processing labs. The Clinical Research Nurse must be able to prioritize assigned duties under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Director.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree plus two years related work experience OR an equivalent combination of relevant post secondary education and work experience that equals at least 4 years.
Must maintain Registered Nurse license in the state Kansas while in this position. Will be required to obtain licensing within the state of Missouri within 6 months of hire.
Basic Life Support Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Registered nursing license in state of Missouri.
ACLS and PALS certification.
Good Clinical Practice Certification.
Human Subject Research Certification.
Job Duties Outlined:
Plan, provide, and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients of all ages in accordance with the protocol, physician orders, institutional SOPs and state licensure scope of practice. Use professional nursing judgment when conducting nursing research activities to participants.
Perform procedures and/or administer Investigational Drugs in strict compliance to the study protocol, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), and other state and local regulations as applicable.
Oversee and monitor the well-being and safety of study participants; identify Adverse Events (AEs) and provide proper documentation and reporting of all AEs to study team.
Attend continuing education, research and training seminars as requested by manager.
Provide clear and comprehensive documentation of study visit activities while adhering to the study protocol and the guidelines of Good Clinical Practice.
Operate and maintain research equipment according to departmental policy.
Perform study defined procedures and assessments, including, but not limited to, vital signs, IV placement, drug administration, lab collection, lab processing, phlebotomy, electrocardiograms, etc. in strict compliance with the study protocol.
Ensure all required consent forms are obtained prior to any research activities.
Utilize evidence-based practice methods to improve participant care and study conduct.
Able to be flexible with daily assignments including work locations.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
